Preston Harriers had double winners at the 7 miles / 415m climb Waddington Fell Race, near Clitheroe. Patrick Brown won the race for the second year in succession and Loren Dawson was first lady home. The women, Loren, Kate Lakeland and Olga Wiggins, also won the team prize.
There was 17 Preston Harriers in the field of 99 for this club championship and final counter in the Inter Club Fell Series race. Alistair Palmer was second place at the top of the first climb, but after turning his ankle he needed to stop, but recovered well for a comfortable 4th place finish. Tom Brown was the next Harrier home in 20th place. He was followed by Dave Parkington (M60, 23rd) and Darren McDermott (M50, 29th).
Loren Dawson was 30th for her second fell race win this year, having won Paddy’s Pole in June. Kate Lakeland was 65th and Olga Wiggins (F40, 95th) completed the Harriers women at the race.
Other finishers were John Rainford (M60, 34th), Tom Prescott (42nd), John Griffiths (M60, 48th), Steve Bamber (M60, 51st), Craig Walker (62nd), Michael McLoughlin (M70, 73rd), Chris Wales (M50, 82nd) and Gordon Thompson (M60, 92nd). The final finisher, and still fell running at over 80 years old, was club treasurer Pete McDermott (99th).
