Fell Running

The freedom of the fells

Overview

We enter teams in all the major fell relay races, including The Calderdale Way Relay, Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay and the British Fell & Hill Relay Championship.

Preston Harriers organize two fell races – Paddy’s Pole Fell Race and Chipping Show Fell Race. We have our own Club Fell Running Championship, comprising of 9 fell races each  year with trophies awarded to Best Male & Female Fell Runners, Male Vet 40, Male Vet 50, Male Vet 60. We also compete, along with 6 other local clubs, in the Inter Club Fell Races, of 4 races. Individual and team prizes are awarded.

For 2017 we have re-introduced a Junior fell running championship.

Some of our runners regularly race in the Kendal Winter League. Races are held every Sunday from January to March. The courses can be traditional cross country, hilly trail, easy fell or steeper fell terrain.

Please contact the Fell Running Coordinator if you wish to know anything further about fell running at Preston Harriers.

Summer Training – Tuesday Evening:
Throughout the summer months there is a Tuesday evening training run on the surrounding fells of Bowland, Pendle and the West Pennine Moors. These are group runs suitable for all adults of any ability. All are welcome. Please note that, although there are no coaches or group leaders, we always run in groups of similar ability and no runner is left to run alone.

The weather can be inclement even in summer, so it is advisable to bring along a waterproof top and trousers, hat, gloves, whistle and compass. Fell or trail shoes should be worn. Road shoes are unsuitable.

Start Time: 6.45pm (unless stated otherwise)
