Road Running: Training

There are road and track based interval sessions taking place  throughout the year. Some of these sessions are interval based and a brief guide to interval training is available here

Below is an overview of the current training options on offer to members. Please complete a web enquiry form here: https://www.prestonharriers.co.uk/contact or email victoriaprestonharriers@gmail.com to book a trial session for any of the groups outlined below so we can ensure you are welcomed. 

Tuesday Night Track Group


Starting at 6.30pm, training consists of interval sessions during summer and winter. All abilities are welcome, with different paced groups running the intervals. Track Schedules:

Wednesday Night Track Group


This session is for everyone, from those just starting out to experienced runners. The sessions are led by club coaches, Steve Jackson and Alan Appleby. It is an interval session based on a set distance or set time run.

The session begins at 7.00pm and runners meet at the cabin on the far side of the track from the entrance.


From April to September, the Under 11 group have a general session which finishes at 7pm, therefore the group cannot access the track for any warm up until 7pm.

Please note, to use the track you will need to pay a Preston Harriers official at the gate or have a Track Pass from the club, which you can purchase through your MemberShip Mojo

Tuesday and Thursday Night Running Fitness Group


This is a free senior training group which offers a road-based session led by a UKA qualified coach and supported by qualified ‘Leaders in Running Fitness’ and is particularly suited to newcomers to running, and intermediate runners. Tuesdays are intervals and hill training and Thursdays are on the local roads, doing varying distances upto 10 miles with cut off points for shorter distances.

The start time is 6:30pm the group meets on the corner opposite The New Continental pub.

Training itself take place in Avenham and Miller Parks. 

Tuesday and Thursday Night Development Group

As above, this is a free senior training group which offers a road-based session led by a UKA qualified coach. These sessions are aimed at senior athletes looking who can currently run a 23 minute 5km and aim to improve their perfomances across distances from 5km to a marathon. Tuesday nights are interval sessions and Thursday nights are longer runs in the local area. 

The start time is also 6:30pm, with the group meeting on the corner opposite The New Continental pub.

Tuesday and Thursday Night Sub-22min 5k and Equivalent Group

Meeting at different locations dependent on the week - in either Penwortham, Cottam or the Preston Docklands - these sessions can help runners improve their speed and endurance with encouragement from others of a similar pace. This groups is not formally coached. 

Parkrun


There is a free Preston 5k parkrun every Saturday morning at 9.00am from Avenham Park. Preston Harriers do not organise it, although many of our runners do regularly use parkrun as a training session. In the winter months we have a cross country training session from the same venue shortly after parkrun finishes.

Junior Parkrun


There is a free junior Preston 2k Parkrun every Sunday morning at 9.00am from Avenham Park.
