Peter Cowling takes the honours for June after coming to the aid of a fellow runner in distress on a very hot day at the Freckleton Half Marathon on June 18. This email was sent to the club from Steve Ashworth, and is worth repeating without any editing.
I believe you have a runner named Peter Cowling. I was running the Freckleton Half last Sunday. Near the end I suffered a severe medical emergency. I have no memory of the incident other than coming round approx 1 hour later in an ambulance. The paramedics told me I had a temperature of 41.5 which is apparently critical and the likely cause of the problems. They advised me I was very lucky not to have bad head injuries which are apparently common with an uncontrolled fall. I am told this is because a fellow runner saw my predicament and assisted me before I hit the road. I am told this may have been Peter (it was). Please therefore pass on my sincere thanks as a difficult situation may have been worse without his intervention. I am making a good recovery and having precautionary cardio tests as the doctors are a bit concerned at such a long memory loss. All being well I will soon be back with the running community.
