Rivington Pike Fell Race

A large field of 371 athletes assembled in cool cloudy conditions for the 2017 running of the Rivington Pike Fell Race. The race is run annually on Easter Saturday over a distance of 3.2 miles with 700 feet of climb – a straight ascent and descent. Preston Harriers were well represented with a total of nine entrants. First home was Oliver Heaton continuing his fine form in 28th position and a time of 20.44. Next to complete was Andy Grimshaw in 70th position (23.04) followed by Roy Parkinson 138th (25.19), Kate Lakeland 218th (28.19), Phil Lakeland 293rd (31.45), Emily Wiggins 316th (33.39), Olga Wiggins 332nd (34.55), Joe Howard 361st (40.52) and 1st Vet 80 George Arnold 363rd in 41 minutes exactly.

Preston Harriers were also well represented in the Rivington Pike junior races. Olivia Coupe was 15th overall and 6th girl in the under 11 age group. In the under 13 category, Vladimir Wiggins ran well to finish 11th and he was followed by Hugh Gleave (19th), Jamie Hawtin (26th), Grace Horne (27th) and Megan Ind (29th). Harriers packed well in the under 15 age group, with Luke Suffolk finishing 8th, Cory lee Gill 9th and Jacob Rushton 10th.
