North of England Senior T & F League Match 2

Sun 16 June 2019, Sefton Preston Harriers’ senior athletes fought hard to win their second league meeting at Litherland, Sefton, and maintained their top position in the league by scoring 399 points to win from second placed Blackpool who scored 381.5 points. The main focus was to score as many points as possible and all athletes were doing more than a single event for the team. Sixteen individuals wins, 8 for both the men and the women, together with a 4 x 400m women’s win, provided the solid base for success. Highest point scorer for the men was team manager David Rigby with 20 followed by Harry Burrow and Josh Ingham on 19, while for the women Miri Luft score 29 in her 5 events with Sophie Warden next on 18 points.

Harriers had double wins in the men’s A & B 200m with Joshua Leatherd (23.5 secs) back from university and Josh Ingham (23.5 secs). Sophie Warden (67.2 secs) & Miri Luft (98. secs) won A & B in the 400 Hurdles. There were also wins in the women’s events for Sharon Wilkinson 800m (2.34.0), Emma Hargreaves 300m (11.55.8), Hollie Suffolk 100m hurdles (21.3), Lauren Tunstall long jump (5.15m) Evie Parkinson triple jump (10.22m), and Maisie Saul, returning from injury, in the pole vault (2.20m). The men who won the their events were Joshua Leatherd 100m (11.4s), Josh Ingham 400m (52.8s), Wesley Wilkinson in the 3000m steeplechase (11.13.1) & 5000m ( 16.53.0), Harry Burrow high jump (1.75m) and finally, Will Walmsley triple jump (12.17m).

Harriers are on course to qualify for the Division 1 promotion match in August with 2 matches to go. If Harriers finish in the top 2 in the promotion match then they will return to the first division after losing that status a year ago. The league table after the first 2 matches 1 PRESTON HARRIERS 12points, 2 Bolton 7points (703.5),3 Blackpool 7points (692), 4 Leigh 7points (681), 5 Southport 7points (646), 6 Seaton 2points
