LANCASHIRE SPORTSHALL LEAGUE, 1st Fixture, Blackpool – Sunday 27th November 2016


Preston Harriers Sportshall team totally dominated the first Lancashire Sportshall League fixture, convincingly beating their fellow Lancashire athletics clubs. Harriers scored 433 points while their closest rival Chorley managed 137.5 points. Winning all the 6 team age group competitions and collecting 5 of the 6 individual ‘Athlete of the Match’ age group awards, Harriers look set to retain their Lancashire title for the 9th consecutive season.

The Noblett sisters led the way by winning the ‘Athlete of the Match’ awards with Macy winning 3 of her 4 events to collect the under 13 award and Evie winning all her 4 events to take the under 11 prize. Multi-talented 14-year-old Ethan Tibbs collected the under 15 boys ‘Athlete of the Match’ with 4 event wins. James Ince and Will Whiteside both won 3 of their 4 events to secure the ‘Athlete of the Match’ for the under 11 and under 13 boys awards respectively. The 66-athlete strong team saw many taking part in their first athletic event for the club and gaining valuable points. Taylor Jacob who recently joined the club is showing great promise. He was the best under 13 standing long jumper and shot putter with 2.25m and 8.73m respectively. Hayden Middleton, returning from injury, ran 1.22.3 to win the 6 lap under 13s event. 80 speed bounces in 30 seconds saw Harry Burrow win the under 13 competition. The under 15 team event was completely dominated by Arron Halliday, Ethan Tibbs, Tom Coleman and Archie Bousfield who between them filled at least the first 2 positions in all the events they competed in. Sebastian Chiarella continues to develop his sprinting talent by winning the 1 lap under 11 event in a time of 12.3secs. Bella Buraimo produced the best vertical jump of the day to win the under 11 event with a height of 52cm. Emma Tunstall threw 15.50 metres to win the under 13 girls soft javelin competition. In the under 15 girls age group, Evie Parkinson had a double win in the speed bounce and 4 lap competitions with 82 bounces and 54.0 secs respectively. Pole vaulter Maisie Saul showed her versatility by jumping 2.12m to win the standing long jump (under 15). A put of 9.27m by Lauren Tunstall secured a win in the under 15 shot put event.

The next match is in the new year at Blackpool where Harriers expect to extend their unbeaten run of 25 consecutive league wins. Harriers can expect another great outdoor season next summer with the talent shown by the present crop of youngsters.
