Harriers round up July 12th – July 18th


Eiger Ultra Trail 35km race Sunday 18th July

The big performance of the week came from Elsey Davis, who not only won the women’s Eiger Ultra Trail 35k event but also set a new course record of 4:07.33 on Sunday. A stunning effort in the mountains of Switzerland, in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch region.

Gateshead Diamond League Tuesday 13th July

Earlier in the week Harriers were proudly represented by Patrick Dever and Tiarnan Crorken at Tuesday’s Gatehead Diamond league event, which brings together the world’s best athletes. Crorken ran in the mile event, breaking the highly prized “four-minute barrier” and setting a new PB to cross the line in 3:58.89 and 13th place. Dever went in the 3,000m event where he also bagged himself a new PB to finish 7th in 7:37.39.

Trafford Grand Prix Tuesday 13th July

Tuesday also saw the staging of the Trafford Grand Prix meet and as usual Harriers were well represented. The highlights of the day included Charlie Haigh and Jenson Warren both setting new 800m PBs and claiming first place in their events. Daniel Bebbington took first place in race one of the 1,500m. Elsewhere there were second-place finishes and new PBs for Ethan Chadwick (800m) and Louie Clark (1500m), whilst the following athletes all recorded new PBs: Grace Rayner (800m), Max Cunningham, Alex Kerfoot, George Denye (all 1500m) and finally Joe Monk and Billy Reid (3,000m).

Sale Sizzler 5km road race Thursday 15th July

Thursday saw the staging of race 3 of the Sale Sizzler 5k series with three Harriers in attendance, with Mark Lee first of the trio to cross the line in a time of 18:19 which was enough for him to take first place in the vet-55 age category. Next in was Dave Watson in 19:33, followed by Stephen Young in 19:48.

315 Lancaster 5km and 10km races Saturday 17th July

Saturday saw the staging of the 315 Lancaster 5k and 10k races with Ross McKelvie going in both events. Finishing 2nd in the 10k in a time of 37:31 and 11th in the 5k in 17:39. Carla Davies took second in the 5k women’s race in a time of 18:38. Victoria Duckett and Alan Littler also completed the 5k race.

Aldermans Ascent Fell Race Saturday 17th July

Saturday also saw the running of the Aldermans Ascent fell race, which was held as part of the Fell Runners Association 2021 English Championships, featuring 1,400Fft of climb over 5 miles. Three Harriers lined up with Alistair Palmer first home, finishing 53rd in the time of 44:32. Next in was Jon Green (48:33) and then Michael McLoughlin (67:25).

On Sunday Harriers were in action over three different events with Emma Essex-Crosby completing the Albi Chester 10k in 51:48, Sue Wickham running the 315 Lancaster half in 2hr19 and Steve Hallas running the 3000m at the England Masters AA Inter-Area Match in Nuneaton, in a time of 10:48.8 to take 6th place.
