Harriers round up August 31st – September 5th

Gorple Rocks trail race 31st August 2021

The week’s events started on Tuesday with race one of the Pennine trail series, the Gorple Rocks Trail Race, which was an out and back race with three miles of mostly uphill running, then a sharp turn and return to the finish. The Harriers were represented by Simon Collins, Will Metcalf and Rob Worsey. Collins was first to cross the line in 5th place in a time of 37:20, Metcalf was 12th in 39:03 and Worsey took 28th in 43:22. Former Harrier Chris Tully was also in attendance, taking 9th place in 37:57.

H B 21 fell race, Dufton, 4th September 2021

Saturday saw the staging of the British Fell Running Championship race in Dufton, covering a variety of terrain and rocky climbs on the edge of the Eden Valley and Pennines. Four Harriers were in attendance with Alistair Palmer first home, finishing in 55th place. Next in was Jon Green (88th), then John Rainford (106th) and finally Olga Wiggins who finished 170th overall and 39th in the women’s category.

Wigan 10km road race 4th September 2021

On Sunday Joe Monk continued his fine run of form to comfortably win the Wigan 10k by just under two minutes, finishing in 31:09. Over on the coast Kenneth Beazley completed the Southport Seaside 10k in 43:46 to finish third in the men’s vet-60 age category and finally David Kerfoot competed in the Altrincham 10k finishing in 51:22 to take 9th place in the vet-60 category.
