Harriers on the Radio

Thur 11 October 2018 Preston 10 race director, Joe Howard and Co-organiser, Philippa Walsh, featured on BBC Radio Lancashire where they were interviewed by John Gilmore and discussed the forthcoming Preston Harriers 10 Mile Road Race on Sunday 18th November. John was very welcoming putting Philippa and Joe at ease, more of a chat than an interview, and interspersed with music. After each song he gave the race its full title and date, so there was no mistaking what and when the event was. Philippa and Joe would like to thank John and the team at BBC Radio Lancashire for allowing them to gain some valuable publicity for the race and Preston Harriers. They were able to share the following points on air.

  • Preston Harriers rely on 60 volunteers to stage the event.

  • Technology means on line entries, chip timing and electronic results.

  • A fast flat course suits both those at the sharp end, and the less experienced first timers at this distance.

  • The race is the Lancashire 10 Mile Championship.

  • 2 lap flat course.

  • Contributions from sponsors help reduce the cost of staging the event.

  • Medal and T shirt to all finishers

  • Prizes for all age categories and a number of spot prizes that means any runner could be a prize winner.

  • Encourage runners to get their entry in online and continue their training to achieve their best on the day.

  • Last year 670 entries and with capacity for over 700 we hope no one will be disappointed.

  • Running for a Club means improvement, lasting friendships and wider social group.

  • Joe, as the race director, applies for the race permit but it requires a group of people to plan and deliver the event.
