British Masters T & F Championships

Sat/Sun 10/11 August 2019, Birmingham Preston Harriers ladies took Birmingham by storm over the weekend of 10th/11th August when they headed to the British Masters Track and Field Championships. Sharon Wilkinson, Caroline Warden and Carol Holt took on the best of the best in their age groups in Britain. Masters athletics starts at 35 yrs old and goes up to and beyond 100yrs old.

Sharon challenged the ladies in the W45 age group, where she was crowned British Champion on Saturday evening with a strong run in the 400m, leading from gun to tape. She followed that up with a bronze medal, in a hard fought race in the 200m on the Sunday. Caroline, again in the W45 age group, tried to defend her British title of 2018 in the long jump, but injury meant it wasn’t to be and she had to settle for silver on this occasion. On the Sunday she competed in the triple jump but again, due to injury, had to settle for 4th place. Carol, in her first year of athletics, competed in the W40 age group and was pleased to make the final in both the 100m & 200m where she finished 8th and 5th respectively. The experience has spurred her on to train hard this winter and return stronger next year to challenge for the medals. Never think you are too old to take on a new challenge. The athletes competing this weekend from all over the country were an inspiration. So if you’ve always loved running, jumping or throwing then get in touch with Preston Harriers and join Sharon, Caroline & Carol next year to take on the rest of the country and most of all have fun doing so.
