14 Harriers turned out for the classic Garstang half marathon, a race which at one time attracted the area’s best runners to fight it out over the challenging 13.1 mile course. Harriers Simon Collins and Andy Whaley broke away from the rest of field from the gun and the event quickly became a two-horse race. Racing side by side, the two were inseparable for the first elven miles, however it soon became clear which of the two had spent the past few months training specifically for half marathon distance.  Whaley made a decisive move just after the final drinks station to take the victory in 1:19:50, with Collins finishing second in 1:20:16. There was also Harrier success further down the field with Ken Beazley winning the men’s vet-60 category in a time of 1:33:38.

Other Harriers who competed were Will Metcalf (1:27:30), Mariusz Kovacs (1:28:54), Chris Wilson (1:41:57), Ashraf Kazee (1:43:04), Maciej Jarno (1:55:23), Dan Higgins (1:56:02), Julie Tyrer (1:59:04), Ian Patterson (1:59:18), Sue Wickham (2:11:11), Dorothy Parkes (2:14:04) and Stephen Parkes (2:14:12).
