Fell Training

Winter Training – Tuesday Evening:

From beginning of October to start of Summer Training Schedule


Venue: Fulwood Leisure Centre, Preston, PR2 9YA
Start Time: 6.30pm prompt from Leisure Centre front door

This is a 7.0 – 7.5 miles road run, uncoached, with one or two hills. It is suitable for all abilities and the distance can be shortened. There are occasional unlit sections, so a headtorch is advised.

Winter Training – Thursday Evening:


During the winter there is a Thursday evening, uncoached, interval or hill reps session on the road in Preston.

Summer Training – Tuesday Evening:

 

Throughout the summer months there is a Tuesday evening training run on the surrounding fells of Bowland, Pendle and the West Pennine Moors. This session is uncoached, and the individuals who participate are responsible for their own wellbeing and that of others within the group. It is the responsibility of the individual to decide whether a session is suitable for them or not.

These are group runs suitable for all adults of any ability. All are welcome. Please note that, although there are no coaches or group leaders, we always run in groups of similar ability and no runner is left to run alone.

 

The weather can be inclement even in summer, so it is advisable to bring along a waterproof top and trousers, hat, gloves, whistle and compass. Fell or trail shoes should be worn. Road shoes are unsuitable.

Training Venues – How to get there

White Coppice, Chorley

Coppice Lane. Keep going when the road becomes a track to the CP at the cricket field.

Longridge Fell Quarry Car Park

CP on right about 1.3 miles from New Drop Inn on Old Clitheroe Road.

Abbey Village

Park on Dole Lane opposite Hare & Hounds pub.

Fell Foot, Chipping

On Startifants Lane, about 1½ miles from Chipping village.

Pendle

Nick of Pendle CP at summit on Clitheroe Road between Pendleton and Sabden.

Hurst Green

Warren Fold, opposite Shireburn Arms.

Tockholes

CP on Crookfield Road. Left 2½ miles after Abbey Village.

Summer Training - Thursday Evening

Venue:

Parish Church of St. Leonard, 16 Church Brow, Walton-le-Dale, Preston PR5 4BH

Time:

Meet at 7.00pm for running at 7.15pm sharp.
or (if more convenient)
Meet at Old Tram Bridge in Avenham Park at 7.30pm.
Sessions are varied; the total distance run, including warm up/down, is around 8 miles or 60-75 minutes which will include 20 minutes of hard effort. The sessions are uncoached.
