Fell Running

Preston Harriers fell runners regularly train and race throughout the year on the local Bowland fells, Pendle Hill and the West Pennine Moors. The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and other mountain regions in England regularly feature in the club championship races.

The club enters teams in all the major fell relay races, including The Calderdale Way Relay, Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay, the British Fell & Hill Relay Championship and Lee Mill Relay.

Preston Harriers organize our own open fell race – Paddy’s Pole Fell Race. Alongside our own Club Fell Running Championship, we also compete,  with 6 other local clubs, in the Inter Club Fell Series, of 4 races. For the juniors we have a Junior Fell Running Championship with age group categories for Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 & Under 17.

Please contact the Fell Running Coordinator if you wish to know anything further about fell running at Preston Harriers.

Summer 2026 Training Schedule:

Throughout the summer months there is a Tuesday evening training run on the surrounding fells of Bowland, Pendle and the West Pennine Moors. This session is uncoached, and the individuals who participate are responsible for their own wellbeing and that of others within the group. It is the responsibility of the individual to decide whether a session is suitable for them or not.

These are group runs suitable for all adults of any ability. All are welcome. Please note that, although there are no coaches or group leaders, we always run in groups of similar ability and no runner is left to run alone.

The weather can be inclement even in summer, so it is advisable to bring a waterproof top, trousers, hat, gloves, whistle, and compass. Fell or trail shoes should be worn. Road shoes are unsuitable.
