Sat 24 August 2019, Chipping
The annual Chipping Show Fell Race, organised by Preston Harriers, took place on Saturday August 24th starting at the Chipping Showground and heading across the boggy fields to the foot of the fells. The race then takes in Fair Snape Fell, Blindhurst Fell and returns over Parlick and back to Chipping. There was no danger of the race record being beaten because of the heavy underfoot conditions. The race was won by ex-Preston Harrier, and now running for Bowland Fell Runners, Oliver Heaton in 1:08:17, over 5 mins ahead of the next runner. The first lady was Fiona Williams, Rochdale H & AC, in 1:23:29.

72 runners took part and among them were many runners from East Lancashire clubs who had chosen the race to be part of their ‘Run the Moors’ Grand Prix. Horwich RMI Harriers won the men’s team prize and Middleton Harriers & A.C. won the women’s. The Preston Harriers runners were Jon Green (4th V40), 7th in 1:19:30; John Rainford (2nd V55) 12th in 1:24:06; Katey Markland (5th lady) in 1:34:34; Olga Wiggins in 2:10:06; Jim Doherty (who was kindly acting as sweeper for the race) 2:37:00.
Race organiser, Joe Howard, would like to thank all the officials and marshals who helped at the race.
